(ca.) Built by Penn, the town clerk and treasurer, it is located at today’s 1 Beacon Street. By 1784, then property is owned by merchant Samuel Eliot, who resides on an estate here for many years. The property is purchased and subdivided by Israel Thorndike in 1833, who builds a hotel here in 1835.*
